So, I guess that’s pretty much self-explanatory. It’s Sunday afternoon, and, as usual, I’m doing homework. My husband and I have our yin-yang MacBooks set up on the kitchen table – mine’s black, his is white – facing each other. I have a stack of articles and notes for a research paper next to me; he has a pile of books so heavy I couldn’t lift the half of it on a chair next to him. Weekends are fun!
I recently registered for next semester’s classes. I’ll be taking two required courses (Research Methods and General Practice II – Groups and Communities) and I have space for one elective. Well, I’m making space for one elective. I am supposed to only take two classes this spring, then one over the summer, but I’ve decided that I would rather work extra hard and then take a break than spread it out as they recommend. It seems like everyone I know who isn’t already married is tying the knot next summer, so we have a number of trips planned already, and it will be easier to not have to work around classes. So my elective, which I am very excited about, is called Indigenous and Western Mental Health, and it is offered as a part of Western’s Cherokee Studies program. I am really looking forward to the discussion of various perspectives on mental health, which isn’t necessarily the aspect of social work I plan on going into, but is which I think is an important topic in any field which works closely with individuals, especially those who are struggling.
This blog is a great way to procrastinate, but I’ve got to get back to research…
